What does the cleaner change?
Each with its own switch: markdown symbols such as asterisks, hashes and bullet markers; em and en dashes, replaced by a comma, hyphen or nothing; curly quotes and ellipses, straightened; invisible characters such as zero-width and non-breaking spaces; citation markers such as [1], 【4†source】 and the hidden cite codes ChatGPT leaves in copied search answers; and Cyrillic or Greek letters posing as Latin ones. Emoji, HTML tags, accents and punctuation can be removed too. Your words themselves are never changed.
How do I keep the formatting for Word or Gmail?
Click "Copy with formatting" instead of "Clean it". The markdown is turned into real bold, headings, lists and tables on the clipboard, so Word, Gmail, Google Docs and Notion paste it formatted, while the dashes, quotes and hidden characters are still cleaned. Plain editors receive the cleaned plain text.
Why does pasted AI text look broken in Word or forms?
Chat assistants write markdown: double asterisks for bold, hashes for headings, hyphens for bullets. Chat windows render it; Word, forms and email show the raw symbols. AI output also often carries em dashes, curly quotes, citation marks and stray invisible characters.
Does it work for text from Claude, Gemini and Copilot?
Yes. All of them write the same markdown and use the same special characters, so the same cleaning applies.
What happens to bullets and tables?
Bullets can be removed or kept as a dot or a dash, with their indentation. Numbered lists keep their numbers. Tables become tab-separated rows, which paste into Sheets and Excel as cells, or keep their pipes if you prefer.
Can I see exactly what was changed?
Yes. After cleaning, "Show what changed" opens a before-and-after comparison with every changed line highlighted and the differing words marked.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The page is a static site and every step runs in your browser. Close the tab and the text is gone.
