Zero-width spaces, non-breaking spaces, soft hyphens, byte order marks and direction marks are invisible on screen but very real to computers. They break search, make identical-looking passwords fail, corrupt code and confuse forms. This page highlights each one in the preview so you can see exactly where they are, then removes them. Non-breaking spaces become normal spaces so words do not run together.

How to find and remove invisible characters

  1. Paste the text. Hidden characters are highlighted in the preview with their code points.
  2. Review the list. Each kind of character is counted and named.
  3. Remove and copy. Spacing is repaired where a character is deleted.

Questions people ask

Where do invisible characters come from?

Copying from web pages, PDFs and chat assistants, from keyboard shortcuts on Mac (Option+Space makes a non-breaking space), from bidirectional text and from people who add them on purpose to game names.

Will removing them change my text?

Only the hidden characters go. Non-breaking and other special spaces become normal spaces; zero-width characters are deleted without leaving a gap.
