Turn é, ü, ñ, ø and ß into e, u, n, o and ss. Handy for file names, usernames, spreadsheets and any system that chokes on special letters.
Accented letters are decomposed and their marks removed, which handles every Latin accent in one pass. Letters with no plain equivalent get the usual transliteration: æ becomes ae, ø becomes o, ß becomes ss, þ becomes th. Other alphabets are left untouched, so Greek or Cyrillic text is not damaged. For a web address, the slug generator does the same and adds the hyphens.

Questions people ask
Is this the same as making a slug?
No. This keeps spaces, capitals and punctuation and only changes the letters. The slug generator also lowercases and joins words with hyphens.
What happens to letters from other alphabets?
They stay as they are. Only Latin letters with accents and the special Latin letters listed above are changed.
