How to compare two texts and see what changed

  1. Paste both versions. Original left, revised right. Contracts, essays, code, lists, anything. Drop a .txt, .md or .docx file on either box to open it.
  2. Watch the comparison. It runs as you type. Additions, deletions and changes are colour-coded and counted, side by side or in one unified column.
  3. Review the details. Inside changed lines the differing words are highlighted, or switch to characters to catch a single letter. Fold the unchanged lines to see only the edits.

Why use myowntext for this

Nothing is uploaded

Text is processed by your browser. There is no server, so contracts, cover letters and private notes never travel anywhere.

Instant, even offline

Every result appears as you type. Once a page has loaded it keeps working without a connection.

Shows its work

Counts, highlights and reports tell you exactly what was found and what changed. Nothing is hidden behind a spinner.

Questions people ask

Is my text uploaded to compare it?

No. The comparison runs in your browser with a standard diff algorithm, the same kind used by version control tools. Both texts stay on your device, and dropped files are read locally.

Can I ignore whitespace or case?

Yes. Options let you ignore leading and trailing spaces, ignore all whitespace differences and ignore letter case.

What is the difference between word and character highlighting?

Word mode marks whole words that differ, which is easiest to read for prose. Character mode marks the exact letters, which catches a changed digit or a single typo inside a long word.

Can I compare Word documents?

Yes. Drop a .docx on each box or use Open file; the text is extracted in your browser. Formatting is not compared, only the words.

How large a text can it handle?

Up to a couple of thousand lines the comparison re-runs as you type; above that, press Compare. Very large files with almost nothing in common take longer, because the algorithm has more edits to find.
