Keyword density is the number of times a term appears divided by the total word count. There is no magic number; one to two percent for a main term is typical in natural writing, and anything above three or four percent starts to read as stuffed. Use the two-word and three-word views to check the phrases people actually search for, and the readability tab to make sure the page stays easy to read.

How to check keyword density

  1. Paste the draft. Headings included.
  2. Read the density table. Words, two-word and three-word phrases with counts and percentages.
  3. Check readability. The scores tab shows the grade level and highlights the sentences that drag.

Questions people ask

What keyword density should I aim for?

Write for readers first. A main term appearing naturally in the title, first paragraph and a few headings is enough; density above three or four percent tends to hurt more than help.

Does the checker see headings differently?

No, it counts all words equally. It is a plain-text tool, not a crawler.
